Parental Surveillance
Parental surveillance based on web cameras is a simple and cheap monitoring system enabling parents to watch and hear their children from another room, the workplace, or even every corner of the world.
Parental surveillance is usually used to watch babies and small children. Typical application is monitoring the baby's sleep. Such remote watching makes things much easier for the parents who use their computers at home and can't tear away from them. Any moment they are able to see the baby on the monitor's screen.
In the case of small children the parents can monitor the playroom and be sure the children are playing safely. Another application is supervision of the job of a babysitter. The control can be performed from any location, e.g. the workplace.
The simplest parental surveillance system consists of:
* IP camera
* home computer network (wired or wireless)
* a desktop or laptop
IP camera
P is the acronym of Internet Protocol, the most popular protocol used for communication within any computer network or the Internet. IP camera provides at its output digital stream of data corresponding to the video information, which is being transmitted via wired or wireless IP networks, and can be viewed or recorded even in most remote locations in the network.
Employing IP cameras, both regular ones and with PTZ control, the user may save a lot of expenses connected with transmitting infrastructure, as majority of existing buildings, office blocks etc. is equipped with adequate network cabling. The same applies to newly-constructed ones, because standard installations are always cheaper than specially laid coaxial cabling usually needed for non-IP solutions. IP-based system is not only cheaper to build, but also ensures higher level of functionality, allowing to place cameras in any location in relation to the monitoring center.
Computer network
In a typical home computer network based on a router, the camera will be seen as another IP device. The user should only connect the camera to the router, with a network cable. In the case of wireless router (built-in access point) the job becomes even easier, due to wireless camera. No cable is needed, it is enough to configure the camera and access point.
Computer
No special computer is needed. A typical, up-to-date PC or laptop will be perfect for watching video and listening to the sound from the monitored areas. For a smooth transmission, the minimum parameters are the following:
* Processor: Intel Celeron 2 GHz
* RAM: 512 MB
* Graphic card: 64 MB RAM
* OS: Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista with IE 6 or later
The computer allows to view the video and listen to the sound from the camera via Internet Explorer, logging in to the camera. P6032 network monitoring management software is supplied with each PiXORD camera. It enables the user to view the video and listen to the sound, record the data, control pan-tilt cameras.
